WHY GOD PLACED YOU HERE: PURPOSE & CALLING

Hi friends!! Happy New Year! :)) I hope you all are doing so well! Today I wanted to talk about our purpose in life and hopefully give advice to those who are struggling with finding their calling/what God has called them to do. I have definitely been in this spot and the Lord has led me through this and is still leading me through this. So, let’s talk about it!

WHAT IS MY PURPOSE? WHY AM I HERE?

Some people could say they know their purpose in life and why they are here and others can question why they are here. For the longest time before I gave my life to Christ, I never really knew what my purpose was and why I was here on earth – I honestly just thought that I existed for the sake of it. Since I did not know what my purpose was, I was then desperately trying to find my identity in the things of this world – like in people, in social status, etc. Disclaimer – I have learned that the phrase “the world” does not refer to the earth God created and the world God loves (like in John 3:16), but “the world” is a humanity that is united in rebellion against God. However, when I gave my life to Jesus, it all made sense. It all made sense as to what my purpose was and currently is. Above anything, my purpose is to glorify God and represent His beautiful character. My purpose is to serve God and serve His people. Friends, this is your purpose – to honor the Lord, to serve Him, and to serve othersYou are here to represent the light of Christ to the world. I promise you when you give your life in full surrender to Jesus, you find your purpose.

Some people may not believe in God or ask “Well, why is my purpose found in God?”, and it is all in the beauty of the Gospel and what Jesus Christ has done for us. We can find our purpose in God because He created us. In Genesis 1:26, the verse starts by saying, “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image…” – Our image refers to the Trinity – God the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:27 says, “God created man in His own image; He created Him in the image of God; He created Him male and female”. In verse 31, it says, “God saw all that He made, and it was very good indeed…”. Think about that – God saw all that He created and He was pleased with His creations! He made us so intentionally and it is Him that gives us purpose. Additionally, God sent His Son Jesus to come to this earth to fulfill a mission. Jesus was crucified on the cross to save us from our sins, He was buried, and then rose back to life on the third day so we could be in a relationship with Him and have everlasting life. How amazing it is that Jesus chose us even though it was undeserved. Since we know that our Lord has chosen us, we can find purpose in Him. We can then go shine the light of Christ to this hurting world.

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16 ♡

“Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12 ♡. ~ this is a reminder that Jesus is the light of the world and when we decide to follow Him, we become children of light!♡

WHAT IS MY CALLING? WHAT IS GOD CALLING ME TO DO IN MY LIFE?

I literally cannot count how many times I have asked the Lord this question, “God, please tell me what are You calling me to do??”. Especially last year being my freshman year in college, I really wrestled with what God was calling me to do based on what I was choosing to study. When it comes to “calling” I think a lot about a career path, having a platform, etc. I have learned that this is not only the case. Our calling is in the big things that we do and in the small things that we do. I mentioned this in a previous blog but, where you are is your ministry – this could be being a friend to someone at school, a sister/brother, being a stay-at-home mom, helping people out, loving those around you like Jesus, sharing about God to those around you, and so much more.

Ministry is an everyday thing. Your calling does not have to be speaking on a stage to 1,000 people or having a super huge platform.. or it could be and that’s awesome! God has taught me this – look at the gifts, skills, passions, and talents He (God) has given you and ask God to help you see how you can use those gifts for His glory and for the service of His people. See how you can use your gifts to share the Great Commission and Gospel of Jesus Christ to represent His light! This could be being a nurse if you have a passion for taking care of people and you could use that for God’s glory by representing Him in the workplace. Or maybe you like music and you could use that for the glory of God – probably becoming a worship leader or writing worship songs – however the Lord leads. For example for me – I enjoy writing and am passionate about sharing Jesus – and that is how the Lord led me to start this blog and even do ministry on my hall at school! :)). If you are ever confused, ask God, and trust me He will guide you. I am still asking the Lord to lead me throughout my life. We can trust that our God is faithful and that He will lead us where He wants us to go, we just have to be obedient.

“And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God, the Father through Him.” – Colossians 3:17 ♡

Friends, if you are breathing and alive you have a purpose! God placed you here. I encourage you guys and myself to continue to go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to lead the way and be the Lord of our lives. I love you all and let me know if you ever need prayer! Let us go and continue to shine His light to the world!

Love Bea ♡
