What the Lord has been teaching me š
Hi lovely people! I missed writing on here so muchhhh. This season of my life has been crazy busy, but I am truly thankful for the blessings God has given me so far this year. And I wanted to share what the Lord is currently doing in my life in ministry!! and share some struggles I have been facing with you all as well! š
- HOW HE EQUIPS
This year is my second year of college and this school year I have had the opportunity to do a ministry where I share the love of Christ with the girls in my hall as well as disciple them. It honestly blows my mind every time I think of the way God equipped me for this role. I remember entering excitedly but also nervous about it. It is amazing how God speaks through me to speak to the girls that He placed so intentionally in my group. Through this ministry, I have seen the power of God by witnessing a girl in my group giving her life to Him. I have seen the faithfulness of God by just who He is and how He is moving. I have learned more about how God truly equips us for what He has called us to do. This reminds me a lot of Jeremiah when God called and appointed him as a prophet over the nations and Jeremiah felt unequipped. Jeremiah said that he doesn’t know how to speak and that he is a youth. However, God told Jeremiah that he will go where He (God) sends him and speak what He tells him. God touched Jeremiah’s mouth and filled Jeremiah with His Words. This reminds me that in any form of ministry, it is God that does the speaking and we need to invite the Holy Spirit to come and do the speaking. He touches our mouths and gives us the words to say. He equips us for what He has called us to do.
” I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5 ā”
2. IT’S OKAY TO MAKE MISTAKES
This is one that I am still learning and struggle with sometimes. One of my biggest struggles is trying to do everything right – saying the right words and trying so hard to be perfect. I have to keep reminding myself daily that it is okay to make mistakes and because of the sinful world you and I live in, we are going to make mistakes and fall short. I am not saying this is an excuse to sin but rather knowing that we are humans, so we are going to mess up regardless. Sometimes I focus so much on saying the right thing when my focus should be on Jesus. Especially as I do this ministry, I need to remember that this is all about Him and not me. Whenever we make mistakes or sin, we should continue to run to Jesus in confession and repentance and that He is faithful and righteous to forgive us. We can run to God with a heart that truly wants to change, grow, and honor Him. We can show ourselves and others grace because God has shown His grace and He is never going to stop showing us grace. I want to practice something daily where I keep reminding myself of God’s grace toward me. Yes, I am broken and weak but my weakness shows how much I need Christ. I want to practice reminding myself of God’s grace and I encourage you guys to do the same :).
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ” – 1 John 1:9 ā”
“.. But where sin multiplied, grace multiplied even more” – Romans 5:20 ā”
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness” – 1 Corinthians 12:9 ā”
3. KEEP STAYING CLOSE TO GOD
For me, this school year has been the busiest school year of my life and I struggled with making time for the Lord. Especially doing ministry in my hall, I knew how important it is to have time with the Lord. I can not pour into others if I am not being poured into myself. Not only am I spending time with God just to pour into others but knowing that I have my relationship with God because I love Him and desire to know more about Him. This is a season in my life where I know God was showing me so much grace which goes with it is okay to make mistakes; give yourself grace. I would still try my best to make time for the Lord with any little time I had because I get to and I want to! God values our time!! Through this, I have learned that God just wants our hearts and He so desperately desires a true bond with us.
4. HOW TO LOVE AND DISCIPLE OTHER PEOPLE
Being a part of the leadership ministry on my hall has taught me how to love other people well. I remember entering this ministry nervous about how will I love other people and be intentional. I have seen God move in this area of my life! It is so amazing to me how naturally I am able to love people like Jesus – and this is not by my own strength, it is by God. The fruit of knowing Jesus is what gives me the drive to love other people, to serve them, to care for them, to tell them the truth in love, and to encourage them. Ahhhh, it makes me so happy and excited every time I think about it and I am so thankful for what Jesus is doing in this ministry.
Okay, friends!! This is some of what the Lord has been teaching me this year through doing ministry on my hall at college!! I’m grateful that I get to share this with you all. I wanted to encourage you guys that if you feel the Lord calling you to do ministry, definitely pray about it first and let Him lead you! He 100% equips you and you have already been equipped. Also, where you are is your ministry – this could be your family, or at school, or at work, wherever! Wherever you are, shine the light of Jesus so He can be known! I love you guys and thanks for reading :)).
