DEALING WITH WORRYING AS A CHRISTIAN + I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU AT THE END! :))
Hey!! As always I am so happy that you are here! Today I am going to share about dealing with worrying/anxiety. I was hesitant to write about this because I tend to struggle with worrying. However, God has been teaching me so much and I know God does put topics on my heart to share because there are people who need it (and we can grow together!). I will share tips with you on how I am currently dealing with worrying and what God has taught me!
IT IS OKAY TO STRUGGLE
The Lord taught me that it is okay if I struggle with worrying, anxiety, or fear. It is okay if you struggle with worrying, anxiety, or fear. Even while being a follower of Christ, we will still struggle. We are human, we make mistakes, and we are going to experience things in life that cause us to fear or feel anxious. Although, it is a matter of how we deal with those feelings. The best way to deal with these feelings is to give it ALL to God.
GIVE IT ALL TO GOD
A way to deal with worrying is to deal with it with God. During my first semester of college as a new freshman this year, I struggled with a lot of worrying. I was worried about my major, worried about when I’m going to truly meet my friends, worried about schoolwork, and so on. One thing I worked on (and still working on) with the Lord was telling Him about what was worrying me and why it was worrying me. I would let out all my emotions on God (He can handle our emotions). Also, I write in my prayer journal about my concerns to God and pray about my worries as best as I can. One of my favorite verses, 1 Peter 5:6-7 says, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your cares on Him because He cares about you”. God is a compassionate God, He does care about us, and He cares about what concerns us. When we come before Him humbling ourselves and casting everything on Him, He will take care of us. He is always taking care of us. I learned that we do not have to feel God to know that He is there. God is always there and closer than we think. We can deal with our concerns by bringing them to God and prayer. He will handle the rest.
REMEMBERING GOD’S TRUE CHARACTER
Worrying becomes bad when we start to trust more in our worries rather than trusting in God. When we are worrying excessively, we are implying that God cannot handle this. I have fallen into this trap many times. We have to tell our fears, anxieties, and worries how faithful our God is. A way I remember God’s faithfulness is by remembering how He has come through for me in the past; when I have worried about something and He took care of it for me. Most importantly, we remind ourselves of God’s true character when we spend intentional time with Him and in His word. When we are spending intentional time with Jesus, we are putting on the full armor of God. Near the end of Ephesians 6, Paul (an apostle of Jesus) goes into detail about putting on the full armor of God to stand against the enemy’s schemes. The devil is who instills fear and anxiety in us. The devil is confusion, discord, and fear. The spirit of fear is not of and from God because God is a God of peace. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and a sound judgment”. 1 Corinthians 14:33 says, “God is not a God of disorder, but of peace”. The more we stay in God’s presence, the more we get to know His true character and what He says. In this way, we can bring our cares to Him and trust in His faithfulness.
READ ALOUD VERSES
Friends!! God’s word is so important and He knew what He was doing when He gave it as a gift to us. There are many verses in the bible that talk about worrying. Verses that can help with worrying that are my favorite include 1 Peter 5:6-9, Isaiah 26:4, 41:10, and 41:13, Philippians 4:6-7, Matthew 6:25-34, and Psalms 46:1-3. One thing I have started doing is reading aloud verses like Matthew 6:25-34 aloud every morning. Matthew 6:25-34 is Jesus’s sermon on the Mount. In this verse, Jesus tells us not to worry about our lives and how He takes care of the birds and wildflowers which we are worth more than them. We are God’s beautiful creation, and He will take care of us as He promised. God has been putting the word sparrows on my mind this week to remind me that if He is taking care of birds, then He is taking good care of me. He is taking good care of you ♡. I encourage you to read aloud verses (they can be about worrying or just a verse that encourages you) because it does help to remind us of God’s true character.
We can overcome our worries by the power of Jesus. We can defeat our worries when we come to God’s presence and He will take care of them. If you are struggling with worrying, you are not alone! I struggle too and I know worrying can be so hard at times to the point where it starts to affect you and your relationship with God. We always got to stay in the Lord’s presence and put on the armor of God. It is easier said than done but it is a process! I pray that you seek the Lord, that God heals you from whatever you are struggling with, and that He gives you the strength to pull you through. Jeremiah 29:11-13 ♡.
